Well there are several issues that will get in the way:
- childhood experiences... dysfunctional parenting will leave it's mark even a strong reaction to negative parental influences is ultimately unhelpful in finding the deepest intimacy/love.
- ruptures in early relationships and marriages leave chronic wounds that are the kind of classic heartbreak that requires specialised healing.
- Blocks to a deep spiritual process leave the person solely reliant on human understandings of love.
- a lack of the capacity for self-love!

I really like #3. I have found myself in relationships before where I was unable to pin point what it was that was missing. We would try to tweak or change certain things (usually behavioral) and still find no relief. Now later in life I am able to reflect back on those experiences and realize that what was missing was a spiritual connection. We were trying to solve our intimacy problems with human efforts, when really what we needed was something of a higher power, something spiritual and supernatural. For me, that was making God the leader of my individual and intimate life and reconnecting with my intuition. What a difference!! www.askjanna.com
